Secrets Moxche Playa Del Carmen Travel Diary

Hi friends! For my 30th birthday we weren’t sure what we were going to do for it, we had a couple of plans but they never worked out so about a week before my birthday Dustin pretty much surprised me with a relaxing long weekend at a resort doing my favorite things, reading, drinking wine and laying by a pool. I was sold and we had SUCH a fun time being down there! We went down with the intention to have zero plans, and we did just that. I loved every second of it! I have shared resorts that we have been to in the past and I wanted to share Secrets Moxche Playa Del Carmen with you guys as well! We loved the views, the food, the staff, the atmosphere. I could go on and on but the concierge staff were amazing, the bar staff, restaurant staff at ALL of the restaurants were just the nicest. We would absolutely go back to this resort again!

Overview

We were there for 4 nights and 5 days and it was the perfect amount of time, we flew out EARLY on a Thursday morning and got to the resort before 10:00am which was nice because we got to enjoy the whole day there and then we flew out early on Monday morning and were home by noon and able to work a half day. It was an efficient trip timeline wise but it felt like we were still really able to make the most out of our time there with the flights that we chose to take.

Activities & Amenities

One of the first things that stuck out to me about Secrets Moxché and really all of the Secrets hotels we’ve stayed at is how much there is to do without ever leaving the property. For the five days we were there it felt like every corner had something new to find. We loved that there were seven pools to choose from and something new that we liked were the man-made cenotes which were seriously stunning and made you feel like you’ve stumbled across your own secret oasis. We also loved the rooftop infinity pool that had amazing views that we still can’t get over! During the day, there was a ton of entertainment like live music, some fun shows, and tons of volleyball in the pool! We also loved that while there was a ton of things going on, there were also many spots that you felt completely alone and it was quiet to read a book or lounge on a pool float and relax. This resort felt like the perfect balance of relaxing and calm while also being able to be active and socialize if that’s what you were wanting.

The Spa

When we go on trips down to Mexico we always make a point to spend time at the spas that they have. This spa was really really nice, it was called the Secrets Spa by Pevonia and we loved it! As preferred members we always get a complementary hydrotherapy circuit when we are there and we booked that right before our massages and it was the perfect way to get super relaxed before the massages. The hydrotherapy circuit consists of wet and dry saunas, a steam room, a cold plunch and then pools with massaging jets of all sorts. A staff member walks you through the different steps and it is just so nice and peaceful! We also love getting massages with Secrets, they are always great experiences where we walk out feeling like your whole body hit reset. If you go to this Secrets or any Secrets, trust me, carve out a morning or afternoon for the spa—you’ll thank yourself later!

Dining

Okay, let’s talk food at Secrets Moxché! There are 10 different restaurants to choose from on property and we love that every meal felt like its own little adventure with so many different cuisines to choose from. My absolute favorite dinner was at Suki which was their asian fusion restaurant and you could also make a reservation for the hibachi grill. A couple of other honorable mentions was Bisou, the French restaurant and Allora, the Italian restaurant. We wanted to try Dos Almas, the Mexican restaurant but we ordered room service one night and didn’t have the opportunity to try it! They really have a ton of variety in their food which makes it feel like the resort is a lot larger and you can really spend more days/nights there. For lunch they had a few good options but surprisingly our favorite was the vegan restaurant next to the pool, it was called Bamboo. Also as I mentioned, there’s 24-hour room service for those late-night snacks!

We were there for my birthday and anytime we are there for a special occasion they really go all out for it! There was a banner on our door that said “Happy Birthday”, there were a few nights that we were there where we had a bottle of champaign brought to the room that was left with a little dessert. It’s just little touches and things that they do that make the trip extra special.

WHAT I PACKED

You can click each photo below and it will take you to all of the links!

When we were talking about this trip I knew that our main goal for the days that we were there was to spend as much time in and around the pool reading and relaxing and so I ended up bringing quite a few swimming suits. I didn’t buy new for this trip but I have gotten some new ones for our house this summer and those were the ones that made the packing list for Mexico! We go through suits so frequently here in Florida I usually gravitate towards buying them on Amazon because of the price point! ANYWAYS, now I am rambling but I will link my favorites below!

Secrets Playa Mujeres Travel Diary

I can’t even contain my excitement that I have a TRAVEL DIARY blog post to share with you guys! Its been well over a year.. maybe even a year and a half and these are my favorite to write! Obviously you guys know travel is in my websites name but most of you haven’t been around since the beginning when I exclusively shared travel content. Since the beginning so much has changed and I share so many other things {which I love} but it is nice to get back to traveling and sharing about it. Anyways, now I am blabbing about nothing. Our stay with Secrets Playa Mujeres was INCREDIBLE. We loved the views, the food, the staff, the atmosphere. It was all great and they were so great with my gluten allergy! I could go on and on but the concierge staff were amazing, the bar staff, restaurant staff at ALL of the restaurants were just the nicest.

Overview

  • All inclusive resort

  • Adults only resort

  • 40 minute drive from Cancun Airport

  • Free wifi {I didn’t have problems once connecting to the wifi!}

  • 9 restaurants

  • 2 pools and an infinity pool

  • 1 swim up bar, 1 beach bar and 7 bars/lounges

  • An amazing spa

We were there for 4 nights and 5 days and it was the perfect amount of time. TIP: Being flexible with travel dates has really helped us in finding the best deals.  Secrets Playa Mujeres is all-inclusive and had a ton fun activities on site. They had everything from jet ski rentals, parasailing, a great pool with a swim up bar, an infinity pool, tons of restaurants with different cuisines. They also have their own beach that is just beautiful! At Secrets, all tips are technically included but we tipped throughout the whole trip. We pulled out cash at the hotel in the Preferred Clubhouse down by the rooms. We got out about $150 in ones and fives.

They were also iPads in each room and on the iPad was a list of the restaurants that were open that evening, which activities were going on during the day, if the nightclub was open. These had a ton of information that was very helpful. A lot of these things were usually questions that you would call the concierge for but all of the information was just right there in front of you. We were in the preferred area of the resort so we actually had a special breakfast restaurant that we were able to go to. The Restaurant was amazing it’s called Oceana and YUM. Breakfast lunch and dinner we’re all spot on we loved it there and had breakfast there every day even though we had other options.

We were there for Dustin’s birthday and they went all out for him! We had a bottle of champaign brought to the room and they left a little dessert for him that said “Happy Birthday” on the plate. They also put a birthday banner on our door which was really cool to walk up and see! Maria worked in the front of the hotel when you checked in and she really took the time to get to know us! We also were greeted by the concierge and that’s where I was given a little card that I gave to the restaurants to let them know that I have a gluten allergy. It was in English and Spanish just to make sure there wasn’t any miscommunication. I felt 100% safe eating at every single restaurant! I would also just like to take a moment to complain that THIS is the only photo I took out of ALLLLL of the food I ate while on vacation?! Oh well, these tacos were GOOD! Like SO good!

What to Wear

I actually brought double the amount of swimsuits that are linked below but the rest were sold out or no longer sold! I have had really great luck with Shein swimwear, especially since we are in the pool all of the time now and wear them most days of the week! Amazon swimsuits are also really great and at a great price point! I will do a swim round up of sorts in the near future for you guys!

Secrets Playa Mujeres was an actual dream. We actually visited as guests and left members, we were so impressed! Have you traveled to/stayed at a Secrets or Dreams location before? What was your experience? I would love to know what you thought of it. You can comment below or you can send me an email at tarynintotravel@gmail.com and I will respond to you there!

WHERE WE STAYED

Back in February, we decided to add Mexico to our list of places we wanted to visit. We started looking on Expedia for all of the different options and came across Mia Reef, we were instantly in love and started looking for the most inexpensive dates. TIP: Being flexible with travel dates has really helped us in finding the best deals.

We were there for 4 nights and 5 days and it was the perfect amount of time. The hotel is all-inclusive and had so many fun activities on site. They had everything from kayaking, snorkeling, a great pool with a swim up bar and they had a natural pool. They also have their own beach that is just beautiful! The staff was also great, they were helpful and enthusiastic! On the website it says that all tips are included but we tipped throughout the whole trip. Tip: Pull out about $150 in ones or fives when you get to the airport and use that to tip the staff at the hotel! Also, there was no need to exchange for pesos, everyone there took dollars!

SWIMMING WITH WHALE SHARKS

One of the most fun things that we did on our trip was the half day trip to swim with the whale sharks. We went with Pro Dive Mexico and they were just amazing! They were so knowledgeable and determined to make our experience incredible. A couple of tips for this, take Dramamine or some sort of motion sickness medicine prior to leaving the island. We bobbed in the open ocean for about 4 hours and it really started to make us sick. Another tip, bring a GoPro! Yes, the guide is taking videos of you the whole time but you have to purchase them at the end. We got amazing footage on our own...fo free(check out the video!!)

SEEING THE TURTLES

Lastly, we went to Tortugranja to visit the turtles on the conservation. As you can imagine, they were the cutest ever! Tip: We arrived about 30 minutes before they opened and they actually let us in early and we got to watch them feed all of the turtles while being the only people there! They had so many turtles in all different sizes! UPDATE: When I checked the link for this sanctuary in 2022, they have permanently closed their doors due.

Mia Reef was a dream and we literally tried to book another visit while we were in the airport before going home, we will definitely be back someday! We are SO excited to show you our first video for the blog! Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments!!
